This week, Aldie Veterinary Hospital recognizes National Pet Poison Prevention Week. Click on this article for the Top Ten Pet Toxins in 2011.

If you believe your pet is poisoned, even if you do not immediately notice any side effects, it is important to follow these steps:

1.      Don’t panic, it will just interfere with the process of helping your pet.

2.      Quickly collect and have in your hand the material involved. If you pet vomits, collect the material and put it in a plastic bag.

3.      Unless your pet is having seizures, losing consciousness, or is having difficulty breathing, call the HOMEAGAIN Hotline at (888-466-3242) and hit prompt 2, which will connect you with the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center hotline.*See Note Below*

4.      Be ready to answer questions about your pet (age, sex, weight, symptoms, material ingested and elapsed time--have product container/packaging available for reference).

If your pet is having seizures, losing consciousness, or is having difficulty breathing, call Aldie Vet immediately at 703-327-0909.

*Note* For HomeAgain Microchip members who have the full service annual membership, there is no charge for use of the ASPCA Poison Control Hotline. If your pet does not have a HomeAgain full service annual membership, you may be charged $65 for this call.

Aldie Vet Hospital uses the HomeAgain Microchip and registers its clients for the first year. Following the first year, it is important to renew your membership each year. The cost of a full service annual membership is $18.00 for the following services: Pet Recovery Database, Lost Pet Specialists, Rapid Lost Pet Alerts, 24/7 Pet Emergency Hotline, Pet Travel Assistance.

Aldie Vet is now performing a full line of Endoscopic procedures, also known as Minimally Invasive Surgery. Veterinary Endoscopy offers you and your pet less invasive alternatives to traditional open surgery.

One of the procedures that is offered is Laparoscopic Spays which is a less painful and faster healing alternative to the traditional spay.

For the large breed dogs at risk for twisted stomach, which is fatal if not treated quickly, we can perform Gastropexy. This is a preventative surgery where we will suture the stomach to the abdominal wall in order to prevent the stomach from twisting. Gastropexy is often done at the time as a Laparoscopic Spay.

Another common Endoscopic procedure is an Otoscopy, which allows for safe and thorough cleaning, removal of foreign objects, polyp removal and diagnostic sampling of the ear. The visualization afforded by this technique make it a precise means of assessment of treatment and follow-up.

If your pet requires surgery, check out Our Services page at www.aldievet.com and ask us how Endoscopy may be able to offer a less painful option.

Who's Talking About Aldie Vet?
I believe that the Aldie Vet Hospital is the Johns Hopkins  for pets of  N. VA for 2 main reasons: I believe that: 1.  Aldie Vet follows procedures which are far more thorough than other vet hospitals in this area.  Read More

I have been bringing our pet zoo to Aldie Vet for the last three years (3 dogs and 2 cats) and this last visit was especially amazing. Dr. Griffings was giving our cat Crosby a checkup and she took the time to let both of my sons hear his heartbeat and explained all of the procedures including demonstrating the blood draw. Dr. Luce has established an amazing business and we are so proud to call them our family vet! They all really do treat our pets as their own! Thank you staff. Kim C. from Aldie, VA
